SPORTS UPDATE

FROM 01 MAR 2007 TO 31 AUG 2007

1.         Fiba-Asia Qualifying Basketball Championship 2007 was held at Sri Lanka from 27 May to 31 May 2007.  Nb Sub Sambhaji Kadam of Group Basketball Team had represented India and won Silver Medal in the Championship.

2.         24^th FIBA Asian Basketball Championship was held at Tokushima, Japan from 28 Jul  to 05 Aug 2007  Nb Sub Sambhaji Kadam of Gp Basketball Team had participated.

3.         7^th Asian Gymnastic (Acrobatics) Championship was held at Almaty, Kazakhastan from 05 Jul 2007 to 09 Jul 2007.  Four Gymnasts of  the Bombay Sappers represented Indian contingent which comprised of six gymnasts.  Our gymnasts  made India proud by winning Bronze Medal in Team Championship.  After  1964, this is the first time that  Indian Gymnasts have won medal in Asian Championship.  The name of the gymnasts are as follows :-

            (a)        Hav Sanjay More.

            (b)        Hav Tenshubam Singh.

            (c)        Nk Sampat Shirsat.

            (d)       Nk Bubun Das

4.         53^rd Senior National Boxing Championship was held at Hyderabad from  23 Mar 2007  to 24 Mar 2007.  Three Boxers participated in the Championship and won two  Gold and one  Silver medal.  The details are as under :-

            (a)        Spr Jaisingh Patil         -           Gold.

            (b)        Hav Sanjay Kolte        -           Gold.

            (c)        Hav Chottelal Yadav -           Silver.

5.         47th Senior National Gymnastic Championship was held at National Sports Academy, Khelgaon, Allahabad  fro 10 Mar 200t to 14 Mar 2007.  Spr Surjit Pal of Group Gymnastic Team  represented the services team and won Bronze Medal.

6.         13^th Sprint National Rowing Championship was  held at Hyderabad from 06 Jun 2007 to 10 Jun 2007.  Gp Rowing Team, Bombay Sappers Rowing Node Team (119 Aslt Engr Regt)  and Boys Sports Coy had taken  part in the Championship and performance of above teams was  is as under :-

7.         Inter Services Kabaddi Championship was held at Arty Centre Hyderabad form 17 Apr 2007 to 20 Apr 2007.  The following players of our Centre participated and won Bronze Medal in the Championship :-

            (c)        Hav A B Dalvi            -           Coach.

8.         Inter Services Aquatics Championship was held at Arty Centre, Hyderabad from 17 Apr 2007 to 20 Apr 2007.  Ten  Swimmers, three  Divers and three  Water polo players of our Centre  participated and won six Gold, 14 Silver and two Bronze medal in the Championship. Four Swimmers, one  Diver and one  Coach were selected to participate in  the 4^th Military World Games and 57^th Senior National Aquatics Championship.  The details of performance is as under:-

9.         5^th Young Blood Championship was conducted at Inf School, Mhow (MP) from 12 Dec 2006 to 16 Dec 2006.  Spr Gurpreet Singh of this Centre has been  selected for further training  and screening for retention in Army Marksmanship.

10.       Col Comdt Inter Regt  Volleyball  tournament was held at our Centre from 01 Apr 2007 to 13 Apr 2007.  Final match was between  played 109 RAPID(S) Engr Regt and 114 Armd Engr Regt .  109 Engr Regt won the tournament.   The first eight team positions are as under:-

11.       72^nd Western India Boxing Championship was held at  Satara wef 26 Jul to 28 Jul 2007  and  Group Boxing Team won  01 Silver and 04 Bronze medals.

12.       MG & G Area Football Championship was held at 2 STC, Goa from 05 May 2007 to 11 May 2007 and Gp Football Team stood 2^nd  and 06 players of Gp Team were selected for Southern Command Team Trials along with Coach of Gp Team. 

13.       Southern Command Football Championship was  held at ASC Centre, Bangalore from 05 Jun  2007  to 08 Jun 2007.  04  Players and  01 Coach of Group Football Team  had represented MG & G Area  in Southern Command  Football Team and  won Silver Medal.

14.       MG & G Area Volley Ball Championship held at COD Dehu Road  from 04 May 2007 to 12 May 2007 and Group Volleyball Team won the Championship.  Group Team   Coach  and seven players selected for Southern Command Team Trials.

15.       MG & G Area Aquatics Championship was held at BEG & Centre, Kirkee, Pune- 03 from 06 Aug 2007 to 10 Aug 2007  and Bombay Sappers stood 1^st posn.

16.       Southern Command Volleyball Championship  was held at 2 EME, Secundrabad from 04 Jun 2007 to 08 Jun 2007 .  07 players and 01 Coach of Gp Volleyball Team had represented MG & G Area in Southern Command Volleyball Championship and won silver medal.

17.       MG & G Area  Cross Country Championship was held at Arty Centre Nasik  on 01 Aug 2007 and Bombay Sappers stood First   and 13 players of Bombay Sappers  were selected for participating in Southern Command Cross Country Championship.

18        Spr B Senthil Kumar obtained  1^st Posn in 69 Kg  and  was also awarded BEST Weight  Lifter (Pondichery State)  in State Weight Lifting Championship held at Uppalagam (Pondichery)  from  26 Mar 2007 to  27 Mar 2007.

19.       The Bombay Sappers Cycling expedition was conducted from 30 Apr 2007 to 04 May 2007 in the Konkan region.  09  Offrs, one 01 JCO and 13 ORs participated in the Cycling Expedition.  The expedition went through over a distance of  1100 Kms , covering  Vijaydurga Fort, Deogad Fort and Sindhudurga Fort.

20.       The Bombay Sappers cycling expedition was conducted again  wef 22 Jul 2007 to 26 Jul 2007 in Konkan Region.  32 Offrs, 01 JCO and 11 ORs have been participated in the cucling expedition.   The expedition went through over a distance of 1100 KMs.  They visited following forts :-

            (a)        Kolhapur Fort.

            (b)        Sindhudurg Fort.

            (c)        Deogarh  Fort.

            (d)       Vijaygad Fort.

            (e)        Jaigad Fort.

21.       Army Red and Army Green  Wrestling trials were  held at ASI from 20 Jun 2007 to 23 Jun 2007.  06 Wrestlers from Gp Wrestling team  participated and following Wrestlers are selected in Army Red and Army Green Teams :-

22.       Services Pentathlon trial was held at Arty Centre and  Spr S S Phare and Spr  Ghavane Kirshor  have been selected for World Mil Pentathlon Team and  have proceeded  to Austria for further training.

23.       Hav Balu Rakh of Gp Rowing Team has been awarded  Chatrapati Shivaji Award  for the year 2007.  Award ceremony will be held at Mumbai on 29 Aug 2007.
